Mental Health Resources

Following are some mental health and wellbeing resources for those who are either seeking assistance for themselves or for someone they care about. I will be adding to this post as i continue to find new resources, and I invite you to add to this listing by sending me a message (info@zenbrother.com) or in the comments section below.

The Blaque Group is a virtual sanctuary where the modern Black man can trade the mask for stillness and genuine brotherhood. Through expert-led healing circles and rooted Afrocentric practices, they provide the sacred space and “real talk” necessary to quiet the noise, reclaim your inner peace, and rewrite your narrative from a place of strength. This resources is listed as “Coming Soon,” but signups are happening on the website right now, AND you can check them out on Instagram.

The 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline provides 24/7, free, and confidential support for anyone in the U.S. experiencing a suicidal crisis or emotional distress. By calling or texting 988, individuals connect with trained counselors who offer immediate compassionate care and mental health resources.

The Young Black Men Project is a cool, culturally-connected space that meets young Black men right where they already are—on social media—to talk openly about mental health and masculinity. It uses everything from song lyrics to current headlines to spark honest conversations, helping guys build a solid support network while looking out for their well-being.

Black Men Heal is a nonprofit organization that provides limited free therapy sessions and a safe community space specifically designed for men of color to address mental health. Their “Healed Men Heal Men” philosophy focuses on removing cost barriers and cultural stigma to foster long-term wellness and leadership.

Cultural Silence Wounded Souls is a dedicated platform and documentary project that explores the historical and cultural factors contributing to the silence around mental health in the Black community. It provides educational resources and storytelling to help Black men and their families break through generational trauma and pursue emotional healing.

The JustUs Black Men’s Mental Health Conference is an annual event that creates a culturally specific space for Black men to engage in professional workshops and community dialogue. It focuses on breaking down barriers to mental health support while celebrating the strength and resilience of Black men.

National Mental Health Organizations/Resources

  • The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) is the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization, providing free educational programs, peer-led support groups, and a national helpline. It is an essential resource for finding local community support and navigating the mental health system through a culturally informed lens.
  • The Boris Lawrence Henson Foundation. Founded by Taraji P. Henson, this foundation offers a mental wellness support program that provides up to five free therapy sessions for individuals and families.
  • BEAM (Black Emotional and Mental Health Collective). A training and advocacy organization that maintains a Black Virtual Wellness Directory to connect users with therapists, doulas, and yoga teachers.
  • Brother, You’re on My Mind. An initiative by the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity and the NIMHD aimed at helping Black men navigate the unique stressors of depression and stress through community education.
  • The AAKOMA Project: This organization focuses specifically on the mental health of youth of color, offering research-based workshops and free clinical support for teenagers and their families.

Wellness & Professional Directories

  • Melanin and Mental Health. A directory that specifically connects Black and Latinx/Hispanic individuals with culturally competent clinicians and mental health workshops.
  • Black Mental Wellness. A hub for evidence-based information and coping strategies designed from a Black perspective to decrease stigma and increase access to wellness training.
  • Therapy for Black Men. This directory features over 400 culturally competent therapists and provides financial assistance to help men and boys cover the cost of therapy.
