Introduction: You Are Welcome Here

It is essential that men and boys of color have spaces in which we can find images and expressions that lift us up instead of tearing us down. It is a challenge for us to access the help we need, due to several factors. What’s more, it is often challenging for us to even admit that we are struggling and need help in the first place. In this blog I will be sharing affirmations, recommendations (e.g. books, articles, apps, music, etc.) that I have found to relaxing, encouraging, or helpful for focusing when working, meditating, journaling, or just chilling. I also welcome your recommendations and invite you to share what works for you with the community we are building.

Providing resources and service is an essential part of the mission, vision, and values of Zen Brother. I am not a therapist or mental health professional, so I make no claims to expertise in the area of mental health. But I am a Black man and a father who was once a Black boy in the United States of America, so when I speak I do so from that place, that truth. It’s about holding space for others of similar backgrounds to also speak their truth(s) in a supportive, no-judgmental setting. Be sure to subscribe to the newsletter and become a “Zen Brother,” so that you can join me on this most excellent journey of encouragement and mutual support. In the meantime, peace to your hearts and minds, and welcome to the Zen Brother-hood!

My best to you,

Milmon (“Zen Brother 1”)
